A rigorous workshop that focuses on the essential skills of performing arts training and introduces students to a conservatory atmosphere. This program is designed to prepare students in all three disciplines. The faculty includes highly skilled professionals from the entertainment industry providing an intense but nurturing environment. Focus on text analysis, sensory work, actions and truthful behavior within the scene. Develop the actor’s instrument and commitment using specific techniques. Music and lyrics are approached from the actor’s point of view; music is considered an enhancement for dramatic intention, while lyrics are explored as monologues. Discover the physical coordination to produce musical theater sounds; legit, belt and mix. Multiple styles of dance are included in the program.

Ages: 12+

Kids and creators become filmmakers, Animators, Movie-stars, and Adventurers. They explore media and technology as they learn the fundamentals of storytelling, cinematography, video production and editing, in a hands-on creative environment. Projects are completely kid-made from start to finish! Experimentation, risk-taking, and collaboration are included.

Ages: 5-15

Actor’s Studio: Intro To Theater class at Recess is fun and entertaining for the little ones.

Ages: 2-4

Students rehearse and perform a classical theater production in the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater, a unique opportunity for teens to develop their identity, grow as actors and artists, and build a community with their peers. Classes include the development of acting, improvisation, writing, directing, and performance skills, the development of original material through a series of dramatic explorations, improvisation structures, writing exercises, and more. The resulting performance presented is a product of the collective of teens, their strengths, personalities, passions, and pursuits.

Upper West Side
Ages: 10-17

With the guidance of a Broadway Pro, students will be introduced to a different Broadway musical or animated film each week and learn songs and scenes from these shows. They will learn to break down a song, understand what the song is about and begin to understand telling a story through song. They will also learn to break down scenes, develop original characters and even participate in writing and creating their own monologues and/or scenes. Broadway musicals and movies may include Moana, Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Matilda, Finding Neverland, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, Annie, School of Rock, Charlie Brown, etc. They will also participate in theater games, learn improvisation, and may learn light choreography to go with their song and scenes. This is a must for any theatre lover, dancer or singer! A strong focus is placed on confidence building and allowing children to be fully self-expressed in a safe, fun and supportive environment.

Gramercy Park
Ages: 5-11

Has your child ever wanted to play a prince, princess, king or queen? Do the singing seven dwarfs or magical fairies tickle your fancy? This camp is just the right place to try out different roles from different fairytales. They do warm-up games, movement activities, theater games to prepare our little actors for the stage. They then choose a fairytale that we will rehearse and act out as a group. Each child picks their own role and of course, they have costumes to complete the transformation! At the end of the day, there is a presentation for friends and family.

Ages: 4-10

Get ready to go into a journey where you will discover the art of performing magic. This is not just tricks. It is a whole new world where the impossible becomes possible. Are you ready? Turn a trick into magic! A good magician needs to study the art of performing, which includes magic theory, theatrical magic, and magic psychology, practice techniques, develop skills and, most importantly, learn how to perform. This is a great adventure where you will know how to turn a simple trick into a magic miracle, experiencing the impossible, and amaze your audience.

West Harlem
Ages: 7-17

During this class children use their imagination to be whomever they want to be. The class will open the individual, unique characteristics of each child, develop their abilities to move, listen, concentrate, talk, and express themselves. Children play, improvise, create, and have fun! It’s a one-of-a-kind program that includes a variety of theatrical games & exercises that help to develop acting, creative thinking, leadership, public speaking as well as self-confidence and self-esteem, and a positive approach to the world.
